The Opportunity


We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer for applying technical and project engineering knowledge and experience to solve complex problems and to direct and support the development of engineering and execution of the project, and to ensure the consistent application of engineering quality management robust processes and required standards for the No. 9 Shaft project. Once the No.9 shaft project is complete (scheduled at Q1 of 2012), the role will transition to the execution of the underground characterization.


What the role entails


This role is a great opportunity to join a world-class multi-disciplinary engineering and project team in charge of project execution. Support and coordinate project engineering to enable the delivery of feasibility level engineering designs, detailed engineering, project execution planning and interfacing with the mining contractor, both engineering and execution support during delivery of the shaft project. The shaft project is currently in the rehabilitation phase, going into deepening once rehabilitation is complete. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be:

  • Supporting engineering, progress reporting, and troubleshooting. This includes engineering to enable procurement support for delivery of the plan. Take ownership of procurement packages and scopes of work forming the basis of contracts.

  • Contributing to the assessment of project manpower, capital and equipment requirements to meet objectives.

  • Interprets internal or external issues to recommend courses of action designed to eliminate potential execution problems and to improve construction efficiency and control construction costs.

  • Analysing and reporting trends and forecasts to contribute to strategic decisions and actively supporting the construction readiness, construction and commissioning scope delivery

  • Contributes to successful project completion by participating hands on in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and complex coordination requirements.

  • Maintaining relationships with stakeholders to support a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement and addresses issues with impact beyond own team based on knowledge of related disciplines.

  • Participate in, and support commissioning and handing over ofcompleted scope of the project.

 What you will need for this role


To succeed in this role, you will have: 

  • College/University Education: College degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Mining Engineering

  • Licenses/Certifications: Project management certification or advanced project management training is highly valued.

  • 5 Years Project delivery in and underground construction environment

  • Broad understanding of project management, engineering management, multi-discipline engineering practices, and construction practices.

  • Interface with operations and maintenance staff on site and fulfill statutory reporting obligations

  • Knowledge of underground mining construction

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, understanding of project schedule and cost control tools and reporting, good communication and collaboration with a multinational project execution team.
